You will see from the ASPP's General Guidelines that the ASPP follows a two-stage process. First, there is a step to determine if the manuscript is eligible for consideration. The ASPP has specific criteria regarding the citizenship of the author, theses, previously published material, collective works, critical editions, biographies, reference works, memoirs and autobiographies, and translations.
Then, if the ASPP accepts the manuscript for consideration, the manuscript is assessed by two reviewers. The Corporation selects one reviewer (Reader A); the ASPP selects the other (Reader B). The ASPP has a Reader's Guide. CCSR's reviewers should follow this guide. Readers usually have three months to submit their reports. The reports are forwarded anonymously to the author for comment. The decision to provide a grant is made by the ASPP Committee in light of the reviewers' reports and the author's response. The final decision to publish the manuscript is made by the editor of the series and the director of the press.
